Dr. Irné du Plessis
Meet Irné : Your trusted partner in health
Dr. Irné du Plessis is a University of Western Australia trained medical doctor and ADAPT- Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner.
She holds a master’s degree in Physiology and a doctoral degree in Neuroscience and has completed multiple training modules with the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine.
Her in-depth knowledge of human physiology and brain function, combined with her medical training and extensive clinical experience, have led to a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between the mind and body.
Her passion is to utilize an integrative approach to help individuals optimize their metabolic health to enable and preserve excellent brain health and cognitive function into old age.
“ A healthy body leads to a healthy mind ”
Dr. Irné started her career as a physiotherapist in South Africa in 1992. After a few years of clinical practice, her curious mind and interest in research led to post-graduate studies in physiology and neuroscience in the USA. An academic tenure followed during which she conducted both laboratory and clinical research into metabolism and brain function and lectured neurophysiology.
She was motivated to study medicine at a mature age driven by a desire to directly influence
patient health and well-being. Significant personal health challenges led her to pursue further training in Functional Medicine. She experienced first-hand the contrast between conventional medicine’s disease-centred approach, compared to the holistic, patient- centred approach of functional medicine.
Dr. Irné is committed and passionate for her patients to experience these benefits to manage and prevent chronic conditions.
She has a special interest in gut, immune and brain health. Her focus is to help individuals in mid-life age well and live their best lives by optimizing their metabolic and brain health. Her unique skill set and life experiences, together with her compassion and empathy for her patients, positions her to treat patients with chronic conditions affecting the gut-immune-brain axis. Her treatment philosophy is a systematic, integrative, evidence-based approach; she works with her patients to understand and treat their unique physiology.
Dr. Irné does not currently prescribe bio-identical hormones.
